The meditation practices for the week have improved my psychological state some. I’ve been more focus and I don’t feel anxious recently. I know the last time I’ve did this exercise. I couldn’t focus or stay on the path. I just gave up. I"m more focus this time much better than last time. I still see it hard to seek out a stranger for wisdom and guidance. I usually seek out my uncle who I think has lots of wisdom and understanding. But I notice that when I exercise, do yoga or even clean house, I'm more relaxed and happy. I'm more restful and mentally clear of any negative thoughts and unnecessary suffering.
The saying “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself”. Basically saying that if you have not achieve that state of health and wellness or experience it how can you help someone else to achieve the state of health and wellness. As a health professional, we do have the obligation to our client to develop our health psychologically, physically and spiritually. How can we help our client grow and develop integral health in the body, mind and spirit if we as professional haven’t’ developed it ourselves. When a health professional achieve integral health and wellness, clients tends to listen, respect and weigh what that professional has to say more because that professional has gone through it and has gain experience and knowledge to direct others to achieve the state of human flourishing.
I agree with your explanation of the phrase “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself." One thing I got hung up on with my definition is should Dr. have to experience disease before they can practice medicine? I guess they don't have too but they might be of better service to their patients if they have been in their patient’s shoes. Do you think this philosophy applies to all professionals in healthcare like doctors and nurses?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found this exercise useful. As far as the statement goes, I agree with you. You definitely cannot lead if you have not achieved it yourself; it is kind of hipocritical in a way in my opinion. It is like someone who is overwieght telling you what to eat. I believe this saying goes with any proffesion.
ReplyDeleteLike the responses. I'm happy that you were able to stay focused this time Sabrina. Looks like you're seeing results. Sometimes it just takes perseverence. I remember going to a vipassana meditation camp for 10 days and for the first 2 or 3 days we simply focused on the basics of following our breath. Ultimately though we can increase our psychospiritual develp a ton by learning to meditate well which greatly increases our chances to live a more flourishing life.
ReplyDeleteSabrina. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this unit's exercises. I have been more relaxed lately because of increased activity and breathing/clearing the mind exercises.
ReplyDeleteI also believe we have to "practice what we preach" in presenting a a positive example and role model to our clients. I find it difficult to believe someone's words if not followed by their actions too.
Sabrina, I found it hard to focus in the beginning also. After practice like with other things it got easier to relax and focus. I think you are right about "One cannot lead..." if we are not well rounded and practiced in what we are teaching we will not have the confidence to teach properly.
